Motel One checks in with Property Alliance Group bringing third hotel to Manchester

Motel One has signed up to 3 St Peter’s Square in Manchester in another deal with Property Alliance Group.

The budget-design hotel brand has agreed space for 328 bedrooms, subject to Alliance obtaining a satisfactory planning consent for the site. The application will be submitted in early 2017 and if approved, construction is expected to start in spring next year.

The existing vacant 1970s building was previously known as Peterloo House. Alliance acquired the property from The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society at the end of 2015 for an undisclosed sum and has since been working on proposals to redevelop the site.

Designed by Stephenson Studios in conjunction with Motel One’s architect Leach Rhodes Walker, plans for the new scheme also include residential space above the hotel, replacing the former Royal London proposals for a 12-storey office.

Andy Lavin, Development Director at Alliance added: “This scheme has been designed to complement the surrounding redevelopments and is in keeping with the St Peter’s Square’ masterplan which is fast approaching completion.

“The building will sit in the space between number one and two, providing a vibrant mix of amenities as part of the new vision for the Square.”

Motel One at St Peter’s Square would add to the budget-design chain’s 298-bed hotel opposite the Royal Exchange on Cross Street, which is due to be completed in 2017, and its 330-bed Piccadilly hotel which opened in 2015 – both were built by Russells Construction. Russells is also in line to build the St Peter’s Square hotel for Alliance.
