First plans to be unveiled for Renaissance Manchester site

Written by alliance_admin | Mar 29, 2021

Plans to redevelop the Renaissance site in Manchester city centre have taken a step forward with the launch of a public consultation.

Located on Deansgate, the site currently includes the former 206-bedroom Renaissance hotel as well as a vacant office building and car park. An affiliate of Starwood Capital, in a joint venture with Property Alliance Group, is proposing to transform the plot into a £200m mixed-use scheme, including a redeveloped hotel, office space, car park, and new residential building.

Taking place online from 29 March 2021, the consultation will unveil details of the overall masterplan for the site and emerging proposals for the hotel and office space, including new visuals. People will be invited to have their say on the plans either via email or telephone.

The consultation is the first of two that will take place this year ahead of planning applications being submitted. The second consultation will provide further information on the proposed residential building.

Alex Russell, managing director of Alliance said: “This is a significant scheme, which will regenerate a part of the city that has been earmarked for development for many years. Our plans for the hotel and offices form part of the scheme’s first phase and we hope that by the summer, we will be in position to unveil details of the new homes. Subject to planning approval, we hope that we can then start on site later this year.

“It’s unfortunate that we can’t unveil our plans in person because of Covid restrictions, but we hope that people will take the opportunity to view the proposals online. We look forward to receiving feedback, so that this can be considered before we submit our planning application.”

The plans can be viewed by visiting http://planningconsultations.avisonyoung.co.uk/ and anyone wishing to provide feedback should do so by 9 April 2021.

The proposals for the site are being designed by Jon Matthews Architects. Avison Young is the planning consultant and Planit IE is the landscape architect.
